On October 8 2025, a fire was found in the North Shore, near George H. Crosby Manitou State Park. It was found early afternoon, and the next day it had burned 50 acres. As of October 12, the fire has grown about 300 acres, and the officials are saying it’s 50% contained. The officials say the likely cause was a lightning strike.
12,000 acres of forest, rivers, and wetlands were purchased by the Nature Conservatory, and it is being planned to be more accessible to the public. It is open to the public, but there are no trails or land yet. The land is between Two Harbors and Ely, Minnesota.

The towns are little towns with no local government, and many have old faded buildings.
