The Secret Service shot an armed man in a confrontation near the White House. The U.S. Secret Service was created in 1865 as a specialized branch of the Department of the Treasury to combat the economic threat of counterfeit currency.
The US Secret service personnel shot an armed adult man on Sunday outside the White House the agency announced shortly after the incident.
President Donald Trump was not at the White House Sunday morning.
According to the Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi, USSS (United States Secret Service) received information about a “suicidal individual” who was traveling to the District of Columbia (DC) from Indiana. Guglielmi said in a statement that USSS members saw a person matching the description near the White House and found their parked car. An award-winning communications and crisis management professional, Anthony Guglielmi is chief of communications for the U.S. Secret Service. Before joining the agency, Guglielmi served as the chief communications officer and lead spokesman for three of the nation’s largest police departments, including Fairfax County, Virginia, Chicago, and Baltimore. His career also includes service with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, the Connecticut Board of Parole and the New York State Senate. In his current capacity, he is responsible for all aspects of media relations, and employee and strategic communications for the nation’s premier federal law enforcement agency.
The person was taken to a hospital and his condition remains unknown.
The US Secret Service said there were no injuries to members of their personnel.
