In June, 2026, ASA middle school will host a 6 day trip to Puerto Rico. Students who will be in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade in the school year 2025-2026 will be eligible to go.
An ideal person to go on this trip would be someone who wants to explore or likes science and exploring new cultures. During this trip, participants will be doing scheduled activities such as removal of invasive plant species, reforestation of mangroves, neighborhood beautification, seeing historical sites, learning salsa dancing, going to the beach, kayaking on a bioluminescent beach, and participating in a local cuisine cooking class. There will be no roaming around the city without a tour guide or an adult, but there will be free time at the hotel.
Potential scholarships will be available to people who need financial support to pay for the trip. People can apply through EF (Education First) for a scholarship. Mr. Porter and Ms. Brown are looking other types of scholarships and grants, and they will continue to do lots of fundraisers. Mr. Porter and Ms. Brown will be the teachers supervising this trip.
There are four to a room unless you specifically request different lodging. Breakfast and dinner are part of the fee you pay, however lunch will be on your own. Other items included in the cost are plane tickets, hotel rooms, tour guides, and all event entry costs.
The flight from Minnesota to San Juan is a little over seven hours. You would be in a different time zone, Atlantic Standard Time, that is two hours ahead. One carry on and a backpack is advised. We hope that it will be warm and sunny. For any more information go to the informational meeting on 11/21/24 6pm in Ms. Brown’s room. The meeting is in person or on zoom. https://meet.google.com/etc-tnks-mtu?pli=1 Extra Information: https://www.efexploreamerica.com/tour-website/2826649NA
