On February 24, 2026, 9 students from Art and Science Academy Middle School went to the University of Minnesota Duluth to participate in the 59th annual Junior High Honor Band. The event runs from 8:30 in the morning to 4:00 p.m, where the concert was then held at the Marshall Performing Arts Center. The honor band is split into 2 bands, the Maroon Band, and the Gold Band, which is slightly more advanced. The students that participated in the Maroon band were Delainey Rooney (Alto Saxophone), Carter Vsetecka (Trombone), Noah Carlson (Percussion), Scarlett Langley (Flute), and Abigail Shatek (Oboe). In the Gold Band, the participants were Teagan Rooney (Clarinet), and Jaxton White (Tenor Saxophone). The Gold Band rehearsed at the Weber Music Hall, and the Maroon Band rehearsed at the Marshall Performing Arts Center. Both bands had to learn three pieces in 6 hours, making it a very long and tiring day for these students. The Maroon Band consisted of about 140 students, and the Gold Band had about 80 participants, with a significant amount of extra submissions that unfortunately were not selected. The UMD Honor Band was a prestigious event and its participants from ASA were very proud to have attended.
