Ms. Erickson is the principal at Art and Science Academy (ASA), she makes decisions on how this upcoming trimester is going to work. Trimester 2 starts on December 2nd 2025 at ASA Middle school. Ms. Erickson was interviewed to tell you how this trimester is going to work.
Here are the questions that were asked of Ms. Erickson:
What is your name and job at ASA?
“Melissa Erickson and Principal.”
How do our schedules work, and why did we make them this way?
“When we create the schedule, we try to incorporate as many electives as we can, so we added electives; this trimester is gonna be a little different. So we have you guys in content classes and then we created the other times where you can have electives, and teachers can create electives. It was kinda that way when I came here, so, that’s kinda what I followed when we did it.”
Do you think that this Trimester will improve with the new way of the schedule, and why?
“Yeah I think it will, for one we don’t have the steam so we don’t have a substitute in that classroom because we couldn’t find a teacher to fill that position, so that will be better. I think there are electives and you can be with 7th and 8th graders and 5th and 6th graders can be together. So that I think will help, and then we still get a lot of the creative ways that teachers can bring in creative things. I hope that ultimately we get more student input eventually as we do more scheduling.”
How did each grade’s schedule differ from the 1st Trimester?
“Well the schedule you’re gonna get will have social studies and science everyday, versus every other day, and we’re gonna be combining classes so you’re gonna have a little bit bigger class sizes this trimester. So that changed a little bit, still smaller than the public schools, and we want to dimensionally change it to where everyone will have smaller schools, and you still get electives too.”
When some classes or classrooms change, will some teachers and periods change in the trimester also, why or why not?
“Yeah the only big change is that Mr. Worwa is transferring to the elementary school, so that’s gonna be a change. Otherwise everyone else will be in the same classrooms.”
Is it possible to switch electives for Trimester Two, and if so, how soon will I need to request changes?
“Yeah what we’re gonna do this trimester is we’re gonna try to do it in the first couple weeks so kids can get their electives, get their classes. But then in the first two weeks they can make a change if they need to”
Will any lunch periods change with the new schedule?
“Yeah we are gonna change the lunch periods a little bit, 20 minute lunch and 20 minute recess time.”
When will students officially receive their Trimester Two schedules?
“Im hoping that we can get them all back this Friday, so that your usually gonna get them the first week of December in person and not in Thanksgiving break.”
How long will the new classes be?
“They’re gonna be like 54 minutes I think, versus we have 48 minutes right now.”
